Theoretical and Applied Karstology(TAK) is an annual journal dedicated to cave and karst science.
The first four issues were published by the "Emil Racovita" Institute of Speleology, as a series, between 1983 and 1991. Since 1992, TAK has been edited by the Institute, and published annually by the Romanian Academy's Publishing House. TAK publishes original contributions (review articles, research papers, short notes and book reviews) covering the whole range of karstology and physical speleology: karst geology and mineralogy, chemistry and physics of karst processes, karst geomorphology, karst hydrology and hydrogeology, speleo-chronology and landscape evolution, speleogenesis, climate and subterranean environment, speleo-palaeontology, engineering and environmental problems in karst, karst managment, etc. TAK articles are published in either English or French, with abstracts, keywords and captions in both languages.
Traditionally, TAK articles were selected from contributions submitted to the "Theoretical and Applied Karstology" Symposium, which was held every spring. Additionally, original contributions not presented at the Symposium were also published, provided that sufficient editorial space was available. Since the year 2000 the TAK Symposium has no longer been held annually, and the ties between the Symposium and the journal are no longer enforced.
Currently TAK is indexed with Georef and Biosis, and procedures for indexation with ISI have been started.
